Drums + sticks

Round drums, were used during feasts, and were also part of the shamans paraphernalia. For normal use, cedar rims would be split and then carved into a fine plank, then steam bent together, and pegged or sewn together. The rawhide would then be soak and stretch onto the rim, then tied or pegged to the drum rim.

Drums were then painted with a person´s crest, as for the shaman´s drum, usually the design would be painted inside the drum, and would be the symbol of the shaman´s helper spirit.

Box Drums- were made from a very large piece of cedar plank, the kerf cut in 3 corners, then steamed and bent into shape, much like a bentwood box. but more longer and narrow, then a design would be painted on, either on the side or inside of the box. These were used during the feasts + cermonial times during the winter. earlier times they could be hung from a rafter, and the person would wrap his hand in leather. Today the drums are placed on the bottom edge and most are drummed with large beaters of leather + woodstick.
